Since September, I have created over a thousand of these masks, while thinking through the creation of a Chinese folklore that tales of a future where we can emerge from the hysterics of yellow peril during a global pandemic with power and grace. I am creating a cocoon with masks that both protect and empower my ancestry to emerge anew. It is a wishful project in which masks take their form in translucent porcelain relics to Chinese history rather than the masks’ current form as both lifesaving and life-ending.
